Custom Post Types adds separate directory listing types to GeoDirectory. Instead of placing every entry into one structure, a site can maintain distinct types with appropriate fields and categories. GeoDirectory custom post types are useful for directories that combine businesses, professionals, services or other clearly different kinds of records.
Directory Features
- Separate structures: Create additional post types with their own categories, tags and submission forms.
- Relevant information: Configure custom fields for each type so contributors provide details appropriate to that entry.
- Connected records: Link listings across types, such as professionals and the organizations they work with, or relate records within a type.
- Locationless entries: Create suitable types for online services that do not need a physical address when the required Location Manager extension is also active. Disabling physical location permanently removes existing location data for that type.
Before creating several types, distinguish a genuinely different record structure from a category within the same structure. A restaurant and a café may share most fields, whereas a doctor and a hospital may need different information and a relationship between them. Separating those structures can make administration more understandable, but it also requires consistent naming and field choices. Plan the information each contributor should supply before expanding the directory. The addon integrates with Advanced Search for type-specific filtering; paid listing packages require the separate Pricing Manager extension.

With the extension active, go to GeoDirectory’s Post Types settings and choose Add New. Enter the type’s name, slug and other settings, then save. Plan the listing structure before adding records and configure its fields and categories for the information contributors should supply.
How do I link two custom post types?
Create the listing types first, then add the appropriate Link Posts field in the originating type’s custom-field settings. Choose the ownership rules for selecting related records. Configure a GD > Listings block in the type’s tabs to display records linked to or from the current listing.
Can I delete the Places post type in GeoDirectory?
No. Places is the built-in listing type and cannot be deleted by this extension. You can rename it, hide it from visitors and disable frontend submissions. The extension can delete additional post types that you created, so distinguish those from the built-in Places structure.
